Diversity

Suffolk Probation Area is committed to the principles of diversity and equality and ensuring that these are met in all its work. A diversity strategy group oversees disability, race and gender equality schemes and also reviews rural diversity issues.

Our vision is “To develop an organisation that encourages, welcomes and embeds an equality and diversity culture into all that we do.”

Suffolk’s values and principles in relation to Equality and Diversity are:

  • To treat all service users, providers, staff and partners in the community with dignity and respect at all times
  • Respect that all our staff and service users are entitled to live, work and learn in an environment that is free from bias, discrimination and harassment
  • All staff are entitled to equal and appropriate access to training, opportunities for promotion and career development
  • All service users have equal and appropriate access to quality services that meet their need and enhance their inclusion within mainstream services, training opportunities and employment.
  • Recognise the value of equality and diversity in our work.
  • To promote equality of opportunity and the value of diversity in employment and service delivery and integrate it in our day to day business;
  • Encourage all our staff to develop an organisational environment that is free from discriminatory practice to both staff and service users;
  • Ensure, through Impact Assessments that our policies and procedures are fair and equitable in accordance with legislative requirements, national, regional and local agreements and good practice.
  • Ensure that all organisations with whom we work in partnership have appropriate diversity policies, and procedures and aim to ensure that these are delivered in their practice
  • To recognise and learn from consultation with diverse stakeholders and groups in order to develop our expertise and practice.
